About us

What do we want?

The Nordic Obesity Alliance is a non-profit organization that represents the patients living with obesity in the Nordic countries. The Nordic Obesity Alliance was founded by the Danish and Swedish patients' organizations to increase awareness of obesity and break the stigma of people living with obesity in the Nordic countries.

Together with the medical profession and with support from science, we strive to achieve the right to equal care for patients with obesity, regardless of where they live, and the right to evidence-based and subsidized medical care. But above all, the right to a respectful treatment.

Our mission

Our mission

We want to:

  • Increase knowledge and educate the public and decision-makers about obesity and its effects
  • Advocate the right to evidence-based treatment in patient-centered care.
  • Actively work to counteract the stigma of people living with obesity
  • Strive for the right to subsidized treatment, being healthy should not be a class issue.
  • Support and empower people living with obesity and their relatives to take the action they are entitled to.
  • Collaborate and support decision-makers to achieve national guidelines in each Nordic country.
  • Support the national patient organizations with education, research and organizational support-activities.

Our vision

Our vision is that every person living with obesity should have the right to subsidized and evidence-based care and be met with respect in society, by decision-makers and in health care.
